Bye Bye Standby is a remote controlled electrical socket that cuts power to the devices plugged into it when they are not in use. This saves the electricity used by the devices that would have been consumed while they are in Standby mode. Leaving them on standby unnecessarily uses electricity costing you money and contributing to Carbon Dioxide (CO
2) emissions. Bye Bye Standby requires no installation: simply plug into an existing socket to convert it to remote control. Standby saving is highlighted by the Energy Saving Trust as a key energy saving tip.
A starter kit for Bye Bye Standby
The Bye Bye Standby 3 socket kit consists of 3 sockets rated at 1kW each (4 amps), and one remote control that can control individual or groups of devices. If 4-way extension leads (aka gang plugs) are used with each socket, then this kit will allow you to control up to 12 devices.

Leaving a typical home entertainment system - TV, DVD, digital TV receiver and hi-fi - on standby when not in use can cost £40 a year according to a report from the consumer magazine, Which?, and be responsible for 245kg of carbon dioxide emissions. Using a Bye Bye Standby to quickly and conveniently switch this equipment off when not in use could save you more than £40 a year and eliminate the carbon dioxide emission.
How it works
Many domestic electrical appliances have a standby feature. For most appliances standby is simply a matter of convenience - allowing you to switch on the appliance by remote control. In the standby state appliances may still be drawing significant levels of power, incurring cost and wasting energy. This unnecessary electrical consumption could be reduced by unplugging the appliances when not in use. This can be inconvenient with wires and plugs often tucked away out of sight, making access difficult.
Bye Bye Standby addresses these issues. The product consists of two parts; an electrical socket/plug and a remote control. The Bye Bye Standby socket is plugged into any normal electrical outlet and can be switched on and off with the remote. The devices or appliances you want to control are then plugged directly (or via a plug block) into the Bye Bye Standby socket/plug.
Take a typical setup where a TV, DVD, Sky Box and a video recorder are plugged into a four-way block that is in turn plugged into the electrical outlet in the wall. Simply unplug the four-way block from the wall, plug the Bye Bye Standby socket into the wall outlet then plug the four-way block into the Bye Bye Standby socket. You can now switch off the power to all the appliances completely using the Bye Bye Standby remote.
There are alternatives but we sell Bye Bye Standby
We used to sell "Standby Buster", and we can still offer the Ecosaver remote control socket system if you want it. But Bye Bye Standby has one difference that makes it notably better: Domia (the company that makes it) also sell products that extend the range in several great ways.
