According to the Energy Saving Trust 33% of
the heat lost from the average
home is through the walls. Another 20% is
lost from draughts, 20% from single glazed windows, and 15% is lost
through the roof (via the loft).

If you want to save money on your electricity and gas bills
then
this site is full of products that will help you. It is clear from the
chart above that there are
some obvious places to start making your to-do list. They are:
- Cavity wall insulation
- Draught prevention
- Double Glazing
- Loft insulation
If you have solid external
walls then cavity wall insulation is not an option, and the
alternatives are either internal or external solid wall insulation. (see this link)
Draught prevention is addressed with chimney
balloons, letter box covers, self adhesive draught excluders,
and all weather filler. Another tip is to look behind the dishwasher
and sink in your kitchen and see if there are any pipes or holes
through the wall to the outside that are not being used.
Double glazing is a product we cannot sell online - it needs
professional installation. We can help you find the right installer
though. The
WindowQuoter link on the left will take you to a quotation
system which
will give you leads to up to three vetted Double Glazing
installation companies that will operate in your area.
Finally, heat loss through the
roof is addressed with loft insulation (coming to this website soon). |
