Assuming you manage to get your fire started (use our
Grenadier
Firelighter
to help you) there will be many occasions when you need to stoke up the
fire when it dies down. The classic, tried and tested, method for doing
this is with bellows. Just point the bellows at some embers, puff away
and in no time a lick of flame will restore your fire to its former
glory.
No better alternative to restoring a fire
Our
bellows pump is the
essential fireside accessory. It is made from hardwood (Indian
Rosewood) so it will give
long life and the expanding concertina (gaiter) is made leather and not
from cheap plastic
(which can catch fire if you suck in hot coals by mistake). It has a
solid brass nozzle so it won't char
and allows you to prod the embers
should you need to. These fireside bellows are decorated with a Fleur
de Lys (a stylised flower) and have two leather straps on the handle
(one to keep the two wooden paddles closed and one to hang your bellows
on the wall).
Length: 18.5 inches (470mm)
Use the right tool for the right job. If you want to puff up the fire,
don't use a fire pipe and risk inhaling hot air. Don't blow ash into
your eyes by kneeling down and puffing onto the embers with your
breath, and don't risk electrocution by using a hair dryer. The right
way to puff up a fire is with a set of bellows.
