The compost aerator is a tool used to
generate air flow
in your compost bin. Without sufficient air flow your compost heap will
become stagnant and compost will form very slowly, creating an
unpleasant odour. Using a compost aerator once a month or more to
disturb flattened material deep down in your compost bin allows oxygen
to pass through the composting materials and reduce odours.
Your
compost heap generally remains at a low temperature and can therefore
house bacteria, rather than kill it off with heat. These bacteria work
to break down the decomposing material to form a compost that is a
rich resource for gardening.
In order for the bacteria to survive, they need air flow and this is
why a compost aerator is so important.
How to use your compost aerator
It
couldn't be simpler. All you need to do is push and pull the compost
aerator in to your compost pile. As you move the compost aerator in and
out of the compost heap the prongs at the bottom of the aerator
lift soil upwards,
stirring up composting materials sitting deep in the pile. Whereas
gardening can often be a strain on the back, your compost aerator does
all the work here for you.

make contact with the compost as you aerate it. Made from
recycled plastic the
compost aerator is also environmentally friendly.
